Atrify is the cloud-based platform for product content and is used by more than 20,000 companies in over 50 countries to share accurate and reliable content with their partners and consumers.
The European Travel Retail Confederation (ETRC) is an industry association representing the interests of the duty-free and travel retail industry in Europe.
Since 2017., ETRC and Atrify have been working together with the aim to develop a digital labeling solution in order to enable suppliers in travel retail to provide product information accessible to shoppers in a consumer-friendly format and in multiple European languages without printing the information on the product packaging.
The demand is coming from a European legislative which obligates suppliers to provide specific information in the native language of the customer, recognition at the EU level of digital labeling as a compliance tool to inform consumers.
Primary role the DPG (Deutsche Pfandgesellschaft GmbH) plays is making sure that the packaging deposit system within the beverage industry functions as smoothly as possible.
As the packaging system is legally imposed in Germany, this means it’s necessary to establish a central database to ensure all steps in the process are according to standard.
Meanwhile, Atrify provides the “DPG System database” (DPG Stammdatenbank).
The current DPG System database is more than 10 years old, so in order to get things back on track, it was decided a new system should be created. This new system should optimize processes, get rid of technical debts as well as comply to ISO 27001 certificate.
“ETRC PROJECT” – creating a web-based platform which will allow shoppers to access regulatory information of travel retail products in different European languages on their mobile device
Atrify hired AGENCY04 team to build a new system in an agile software development manner to create a fully functional web-based application out of the current pilot version, including feedback of user tests from the previous phases. This application allows shoppers to access regulatory information of travel retail products in 24 European languages by searching the product name or the product barcode with a mobile device.
“DPG Project” – DPG System database for the collection and deposit clearing of compulsory-deposit one-way drinks packaging
Atrify hired AGENCY04 to build a new system in an agile manner while keeping most of the functionalities of the old system. No imposing changes/adjustments to the existing (non-UI) interfaces was allowed, keeping absolutely all of the existing and historical data.

The AGENCY04 team took over the challenging project of transforming the old packaging deposit system for the DPG (Deutsche Pfandgesellschaft GmbH), a non-profit that oversees the extensive deposit-refunding obligations applying to the companies participating in theGerman trade sector and the beverage industry.
Out of a system burdened with technical debt an outdated tech stack, the team is building a neat Spring Boot and Angular based application that will reduce the complexity and nuances of the old system while keeping most of the functionalities and all existing and historical data intact.
The new DPG system, for which the AGENCY04 team is finishing up its eleventh release, will be in compliance to ISO 27001 standard, increasing usability and simplicity of usage for the participants, while ensuring the optimization and streamlining the DPG processes.
Using an Agile approach, leveraging elements of the Scrum framework, the AG04 & atrify joint team created a Spring Boot and Angular based application that is compliant with legal standards, enabling suppliers in Travel Retail to provide product information to shoppers in a consumer friendly format and multiple languages.
